Frequently Asked Questions

1.  When is the deadline for filing taxes?

The typical deadline for filing federal income tax returns is April 15th.  However, if the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is extended to the next business day.  We do not recommend waiting until the last minute to file your taxes.

Elm Rose Accounting & Services offers 3 ways to complete your taxes, virtual, hybrid, or utilizing our mobile tax services.

2.  Can I file for an extension if I can't meet the tax deadline?

Yes, Elm Rose Accounting & Services would be happy to assist you with your request for an extension, which usually gives you an additional six months to file.  However, it's important to note that an extension to file is not an extension to pay any taxes owed.  This amount, if any, is due at the time of filing for an extension.

3.  How can I check the status of my tax refund?

You can check the status of your federal tax refund on the IRS website using the "Where's My Refund?" tool.  State tax refund statuses can usually be checked on your state's tax agency website.  Elm Rose Accounting & Services portal will give you up to date information regarding your filing status.

4.  What documents do I need for tax preparation?

Common documents include W-2s, 1099s, receipts for deductible expenses, and any other relevant financial documents. When you schedule your appointment with Elm Rose Accounting & Services, you will be sent a tax organizer to assist with ensuring you have all tax items ready.

5.  Can I e-file my tax return, and is it safe?

Yes, you can e-file your tax return for free with Elm Rose Accounting & Services, and it's generally considered safe and secure.  Elm Rose Accounting & Services and the IRS use encryption technology to protect your personal information.

6.  How long should I keep my tax records?

It's recommended to keep tax records for at least three years, and some documents may need to be kept longer.  This includes supporting documentation for deductions, credits, and other items on your tax return.  Utilizing Elm Rose Accounting & Services portal, you will have access to your return year round.

7.  What happens if I miss the tax deadline?

If you miss the tax deadline without filing for an extension, you may face penalties and interest on any unpaid taxes.  It's essential to file as soon as possible to minimize these additional charges.

Elm Rose Accounting & Services offers appointments from 9am - 11:30pm, 7 - days a week year-round.

8.  What is the difference between a tax deduction and a tax credit?

A tax deduction reduces your taxable income, while a tax credit directly reduces the amount of tax you owe.  Credits are generally more beneficial as they provide a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your tax liability.

9.  Do I need a tax professional, or can I do my taxes myself?

While some individuals can successfully file their own taxes, Elm Rose Accounting & Services can provide expertise, ensure accuracy, and help maximize deductions.  Your choice may depend on the complexity of your financial situation.

We offer competitive pricing, discounts, and referral programs making it easy to leave it to the pros at Elm Rose Accounting & Services!
